POSITION:  Campus Literacy Strategist

 

EXEMPT STATUS: Non-Exempt

PAY GRADE:  Teacher Pay

 

DIVISION:  Academics

 

DEPARTMENT:  Teaching and Learning

 

REPORTS TO:  Principal, Director of Teaching and Learning

 

SUPERVISES:  None

 

EDUCATION:   

  • Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university in elementary education or related field (Master’s degree preferred)
  • Valid Texas teaching certificate required 
  • Reading Specialist, Master Reading Teacher certification, or other reading endorsement preferred
  • ESL or bilingual certification preferred

 

EXPERIENCE:    

  • At least three years of experience as a successful classroom teacher
  • Successful experience utilizing assessment data at the student and classroom level to inform instructional decisions
  • Experience in instructional coaching preferred

POSITION FUNCTION/PURPOSE

 

Under the general supervision of the Teaching and Learning department and in collaboration with the campus principal, the Campus Literacy Strategist works closely with students and staff to support high quality Tier 1 instruction as well as develop and implement an intervention program aligned to the needs of students. The academic focus shall align with academic areas addressed in the District Improvement Plan as reflected in the Board Goals and aligned to the Campus Improvement Plan.

 

Major Responsibilities

 

Instructional Support 

  1. Provide support for high quality Tier 1 instruction through classroom modeling and academic coaching
  2. Support the implementation of interventions and development of flexible grouping on campuses
  3. Participate in Professional Learning Communities to support teams in aligning instructional focus on four essential questions:

a.        What are students expected to learn in our course and grade level?

b.       How will we know that they have learned it?

c.        What will we do if they do not learn it?

d.       What will we do to extend learning if they have already learned it?

Provide job-embedded professional learning to team members through modeling and coaching

Support teachers in data analysis resulting data-informed instructional decision making to support growth in all learners

Collaborate regularly with campus administrators in supporting academic outcomes aligned to the District Improvement Plan as reflected in the Board Goals and aligned to the Campus Improvement Plan

Provide professional development on campus as well as district professional learning days as indicated by the Department of Teaching and Learning and campus administrators to address specific professional learning needs of teachers, including New Teacher Orientation, district professional learning days, and campus professional learning days

Employ a variety of instructional techniques and media, consistent with the needs and capabilities of the student groups involved.

Cooperate with other members of the staff in planning and implementing instructional goals, objectives, and methods in accordance with district requirements.

Plan and supervise purposeful assignments for teacher assistant(s) and/or volunteer(s).

Employ the use of technologies in the teaching/learning process.

Assist in the selection of books, equipment, and other instructional materials.

 

        Student Growth and Development 

  1. Work with small groups of students as needed for intervention.
  2. Provide student intervention during intersession days as indicated on academic calendar
  3. Assess the accomplishments of students on a regular basis and provide progress reports as required.
  4. Present for students and staff a positive role model that supports the mission of the school district. 

 

        School/Organization Climate  

  1. Create a classroom environment that is conducive to learning and appropriate to the maturity and interests of students. 
  2. Establish control in the classroom and administer discipline in accordance with board policies and administrative regulations.
  3. Take all necessary and reasonable precautions to protect students.
  4. Assist before, during, and after the school day in the supervision of students as assigned by the principal.
  5. Promote a positive work environment and positive staff morale within the school.

 

        School/Organization Improvement 

  1. Participate with other staff in building a common vision for school improvement.
  2. Participate in planning and implementing activities to ensure attainment of the school's mission.

 

       Administration and Fiscal/Facilities Management  

  1. Take all necessary and reasonable precautions to protect equipment, materials, and facilities.

 

        School/Community Relations 

  1. Establish and maintain open lines of communication with students and their parents.
  2. Maintain a professional relationship with all colleagues, students, parents, and community members.
  3. Use acceptable communication skills to present information accurately and clearly. 

 

        Professional Growth and Development 

  1. Remain current with effective instructional practices by reading educational research and seeking out and participating in a variety of professional learning opportunities
  2. Participate in the district professional development program, including Literacy Strategist professional learning requirements and meetings
  3. Demonstrate interest and initiative in professional improvement.
  4. Observe professional and ethical standards in accordance with generally accepted community standards and the Texas Education Agency code of ethics.  

 

        Policy Implementation 

  1. Keep informed of and comply with state, district, and school regulations and policies for classroom teachers.
  2. Assume responsibility for compiling, maintaining, and filing all reports, records, and other documents required.
  3. Attend and participate in faculty meetings and serve on staff committees as required. 

 

        Other Duties

 

  1. Perform such other duties as may be assigned or as may be necessary for job effectiveness.
