DIVISION:  Certified

 

DEPARTMENT:  Teaching and Learning                                                           

 

EDUCATION: 

  • Master’s degree from an accredited college or university preferred.
  • Valid Texas Teaching Certificate
  • Counseling Certification or LPC preferred

 

EXPERIENCE:  Three years experience as a classroom teacher preferred

 

 

Position Function/Purpose

 

Plan and provide support to campus administrators and staff for students with behavioral issues. Access students, provide intervention strategies to maximize academic functions and increase independent performance.  

 

 

MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES AND DUTIES:

 

    Instructional Management 

 

    1.   Develop and implement behavioral plans for students.

    2.   Consistently monitor progress o specific plans developed for students.

    3.   Provide appropriate time, resource and material to support staff in

          accomplishing behavior goals for students.

 

    School/Organization Climate

 

    4.  Work collaboratively with all campuses in assisting staff with students

         with severe behavioral/emotional problems.

    5.  Present a positive professional attitude.

 

    School/Organization Improvement

 

    6.  Contribute to recommendations for least restrictive environment options

         for students with severe behavioral/emotional problems.

    7.  Present training to all staff on implementation of specific behavioral programs for

         students. 

    8.  Utilizes current assessment data on students to develop an effective

         behavioral intervention.

 

    Personnel Management 

 

    9.  Assist in developing training options for staff in serving children with

         severe behavioral/emotional problems.

  10.  Provides support in implementing special education programs for

         students with behavioral/emotional problems.

  11.  Assists with recommendations for maintenance of ROPES facility.

 

   Student Management

 

  12.  Demonstrates knowledge regarding behavioral interventions for

         students with behavioral/emotional problems.

  13.  Demonstrates knowledge of federal and state regulations regarding

         special education services.

  14.  Demonstrates knowledge regarding behavioral interventions for

         students with behavioral/emotional problems.

  15.  Demonstrates an ability to work well with students with

         behavioral/emotional problems.

 

   School/Community Relations

 

  16.  Collaborates with families, students, and campus staff in developing

        programs and services for students with severe behavioral/emotional problems.

  17.  Provides for family counseling services when service is established in the ARD.

 

   Professional Growth and Development

 

  18.  Observe professional and ethical standards in accordance with

        generally accepted community standards and the Texas Education Agency

        code of ethics.

  19.  Use information and insights provided through assessment instruments,

        the district appraisal process, evaluative feedback from the supervisors,

        and professional development programs to improve performance.

  20.  Demonstrate knowledge acquired through multicultural sensitivity training

        in daily interactions with others.

  21.  Perform such other duties as may be assigned or as may be necessary

        for job effectiveness.

 

QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS:

 

            Minimum Education/Certification:

  • Master’s degree from an accredited college or university
  • Preferred valid Texas Mid-Management Certification or Certified Instructional Supervisor
  • State licensed Counselor or Counselor Certification 

 

    Special Knowledge/Skills:

 

  • Working knowledge of curriculum and instruction
  • Ability to evaluate instructional programs and teaching effectiveness
  • Strong communications, public relations, and interpersonal skills
  • Ability to work well with a diverse population

 

    Minimum Experience:

  • Three years experience as a classroom teacher preferred

 

    Terms of Contract (or Employment):  According to district approved calendar 

 

 

PHYSICAL DEMANDS

  • Emotional – Maintain emotional control under stress
  • Physical – Moderate carrying and lifting.  Standing, sitting, walking, use of fingers, eyes and ears
  • Environment – Inside normal office environment

WORK ENVIRONMENT

 

The environment characteristics described here are representative of those an employee encounters while performing the essential functions of this job.  The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate.  Must be able to maintain emotional control under stress.  Occasionally required to travel to facilities within the district.  May be required to work after school and weekends.
