EDUCATION: Bachelor’s degree from accredited college or university
Valid Texas teaching certificate
EXPERIENCE: 3-5 years successful teaching experience as a teacher in the appropriate
grade level areas of mathematics
Position Function/Purpose
Provide students with appropriate learning activities and experiences designed to fulfill their potential for intellectual, emotional, physical, and social growth. Enable students to develop competencies and skills to function successfully in society. Math Specialist will serve as an on-site professional staff developer who collaborates with teachers to use proven practices in the instruction of math.
Major Responsibilities
- Provide content and instructional expertise as well as on-site technical assistance and professional development
- Provide expertise in standards-based lesson planning and the development and analysis of classroom-based formative assessments.
- Model and co-teach lessons for classroom teachers.
- Conduct focused observations with “next step” support to teachers.
- Collaborate in planning and co-teaching with teachers to help match the teaching with the student’s strengths and weaknesses.
- Assist teachers with intervention strategies and implementation of differentiated instruction.
- Collaborate with the Math Department to meet campus and district needs.
- Assist teachers and campuses by building leadership capacity.
- Participate fully in professional development provided by the district and take the information back to the campus to share.
- Conduct staff development for teachers.
- Support Professional Learning Communities by modeling collaborative structures, providing professional resources, compiling and analyzing data, assisting in the design of interventions, and modeling and co-teaching best practices.
- Provide technical assistance in collecting and analyzing of data for instructional decision making.
- Perform other tasks and assume other responsibilities as may, from time to time, be assigned by the supervisor.
Special Knowledge/Skills:
- Knowledge of Texas Essential Knowledge and Skills
- Knowledge of adopted core curriculum
- Knowledge or research-based practices related to mathematics
- Knowledge of formative and summative assessment strategies
- Knowledge of the school improvement process
- Knowledge of classroom management techniques
- Interpersonal communication skills (oral and written) to build relationships with teachers, students, and school personnel
- Effective presentation skills
- Organizational skills

The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate. Must be able to maintain emotional control under stress. Occasionally required to travel to facilities within the district. May be required to work after school and weekends.
