POSITION: Teacher Assistant, Interventionist (Title I)


EXEMPT STATUS: Non-Exempt


NUMBER OF DAYS:  According to district approved calendar 


DEPARTMENT: Teaching and Learning


REPORTS TO:  Principal and Teachers Assigned


SUPERVISES:  None


EDUCATION: 

  • High School Diploma or GED and/or 30 semester hours of an accredited college or university
  • Educational Aide Certificate from state of Texas  

EXPERIENCE:    

  • Some experience working with children

Position Function/Purpose

Assist the teacher in the preparation and management of classroom activities and administrative requirements.  Work under the supervision of a certified teacher. This position is federal/title funded and there is no guarantee of the position if funds are no longer available.

 

Essential Functions

  1. Follow the directions of the supervisor
  2. Prepare instructional materials
  3. Demonstrate acceptable written and verbal skills
  4. Conduct small group instruction
  5. Work cooperatively with both teachers and students
  6. Assist staff in implementing school-wide and classroom behavior management plans
  7. All other duties as assigned by the supervisor

Qualification Requirements

  1. Possess, or be willing to apply for, a TEA Educational Aide Certificate (personal expense)
  2. Educational Aide certificate as established by the State Board for Educator Certification. The applicant for the educational aide certificate shall

1.  hold a high school diploma, the equivalent of a high school diploma, or higher;

2.  have satisfied one of the following requirements:

 a. has three creditable years of experience, as defined in Chapter 153, Subchapter CC, of this title (relating to Commissioner's Rules on Creditable Years of Service), as either an educational aide I or II; or

 b. has completed 30 semester credit hours of college credit with some emphasis on child growth and development or related subject areas;

 c. and have experience working with students and parents as approved by the employing superintendent.

      3.  The ability to attend professional development trainings as required by the District

      4.  Ability to work well with children and staff in a positive manner
