EDUCATION:  

  • High School Diploma or GED

EXPERIENCE:    

  • Training or experience in law enforcement and/or security profession
  • Knowledge and experience of electronic intrusion detection systems

Position Function/Purpose

The security department enforces the provision of Section 21.483 of the Texas Education Code, the Texas Penal Code, and the rules and regulations promulgated by the MISD School Board for the safety and welfare of students, employees, and property.

Essential Functions

1.      Patrolling MISD property in a manner prescribed by the Chief of Police

2.      Remains on call as a duty officer to respond to alarms as required

3.      Responds to all alarms or requests for assistance as required

4.      Prepares and submits written reports of activities, incidents, and other security/safety violations or problems

5.      Applies MISD security policies and procedures to situations involving acts of crime, alarm activations, and emergency situations

6.      Works cooperatively with other law enforcement agencies

7.      Inspects MISD property for compliance with security and safety requirements, makes recommendations to building administrators for improvements

8.      Assists in conducting investigations and in providing written reports of incidents

9.      Works days, nights, weekends, and/or holidays as duties are scheduled

10.    Works closely with students, teachers, and staff to gain support for the MISD security and safety program

11.    Other duties as assigned by the supervisor

 

Qualifications

1.      Peace Officer Certificate in Texas (TCLEOSE)

2.      U.S. Citizen

3.      Be familiar with MISD operations

4.      Valid Texas Driver’s License and acceptable driving record; must adhere to Midland ISD’s vehicle safety and use program

Requirements

1.      Officer must live within Midland County

2.      Maintain a home phone

3.      Use and maintain a personal vehicle

4.      Be able to work a flexible schedule

5.      Remain “on call” when scheduled and requested

6.      Have a valid Texas driver’s license

7.      Not be on probation for any offense above the grade of Class C misdemeanor

8.      Not have been convicted of a Class A misdemeanor offense within the last 12 months or a Class B within the last 6 months

9.      Not convicted of a SWI or DUI within the last 24 months

10.    Never convicted of a felony

11.    Subjected to a thorough background investigation

12.    Examination by a licensed physician and psychologist, psychiatrist, or other registered professional and declared in good physical and mental health for appointment

13.    Never discharged from any military service under less than honorable conditions

Work Environment

The environment characteristics described here are representative of those an employee encounters while performing the essential functions of this job.

The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate.  Must be able to maintain emotional control under stress.  Occasionally required to travel to facilities within the district.  May be required to work after school and weekends.
