DEPARTMENT:  Maintenance

 

REPORTS TO:  Facility Control & Compliance Supervisor

 

SUPERVISES:  Locksmith

  

 

Position Function/Purpose

To work with the MISD structural department as Locksmith Foreman, to maintain, repair, upgrade

and install door lock and millwork hardware. Maintain existing district keying system in a safe,     

secure, efficient and operational manner, as well as being knowledgeable of new hardware             

technology.

Major Responsibilities

         1.  Analyze hardware system problems to board level and effect repair

         2.  Replace outdated hardware systems with new replacement hardware of different design and configuration

         3.  Assist in the long range planning, it is necessary to be familiar with the theory and mathematics of the lock and key operation

         4.  Generate and maintain accurate keying records

         5.  Set up and instigate a 3 & 4 level keying system for all school properties

         6.  Work with the internal parts of locks and exit devices

         7.  Install, adjust, and repair door closes

         8.  Operate key related machines, and construction related power hand tools as required

         9.  General carpentry experience is an asset, due to the need to be able to build or repair door jambs, hang doors, replace hinges, etc.

        10.  Regulate and control all outgoing and incoming keys to District

        11.  Maintain and upgrade old systems for security

        12.  Research and present new and updated systems

        13.  Make emergency judgment calls and take responsibility for action

        14.  Assume responsibility for scheduling and assigning work to other door and lock workers

        15.  Monitor job performance and time management of door and lock workers

        16.  Be on call 24 hours a day

        17.  Perform other duties as assigned by the Maintenance Operations Supervisor and the Executive Director of

               School Plant & Construction Services    

Qualification Requirements

     Minimum Certification/Education:

         1.  High School Diploma or GED

         2.  Valid Texas Driver License and acceptable driving record; must adhere to Midland ISD’s vehicle safety &  
               use program

         3.  ALOA (Associated Locksmith of America) certification or 5 years of experience as a locksmith

 

         Special Knowledge/ Skills:

         1.  Be familiar with correct locksmith terminology  

         2.  Knowledge in general builder’s hardware including millwork hardware and miscellaneous toilet hardware

         3.  Knowledge in master keying and key coding

         4.  Ability to make decisions in emergency situations

         5.  Ability to plan and carry out schedules

         6.  Ability to interpret lock and code books, HPC, Reed

         7.  Ability to pin lock assembly from code numbers

         8.  Ability to cut keys from code number only

         9.  Must be proficient with lock picking tools

        10.  Basic computer skills

        11.  Knowledgeable in new products

        12.  Be able to be on call 24 hours a day

 

         Minimum Experience:

         1.  Prior experience in door and lock hardware repair and new installation
