EDUCATION:
- Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university
- Valid Texas teaching certificate required
- Specialty or endorsement in Mathematics preferred
EXPERIENCE:
- At least three years experience as a successful classroom teacher
- Successful experience utilizing math assessment data at the student and campus level to inform instructional decisions
- Experience in instructional coaching preferred
POSITION FUNCTION/PURPOSE
The primary role of the Elementary Math Strategist is to work directly with teachers, campus leadership teams, and the secondary math coordinator. The work includes advancing high-quality Tier 1 math instruction by supporting campus implementation of district resources, participating in assessment development, and providing professional learning as needed. The academic focus shall align with the District Improvement Plan as reflected in Board Goals.

Essential Functions
Instructional Support
- Applies knowledge of state mathematics standards, research, and best instructional practices to the planning and design of Tier-1 instruction and assessments.
- Supports the implementation of grade-level-specific mathematics TEKS using district resources and effective teaching strategies including job-embedded coaching and modeling.
- Participates in Professional Learning Communities to support math teams.
- Supports teachers in data analysis resulting in data-informed instructional decision-making to support growth in all learners.
- Employs a variety of instructional best practices consistent with the needs and capabilities of all learners.
- Assists in designing, developing, implementing, and evaluating new instructional resources, tools, and supplemental materials.
- Provides professional learning sessions on campuses as well as district professional learning days as indicated by the Department of Teaching and Learning and campus administrators to address specific professional learning needs of teachers, including New Teacher Orientation, district professional learning days, and campus professional learning days.
- Supports the implementation of interventions and development of flexible grouping on campuses.
- Collaborates regularly with campus administrators and the district secondary math coordinator in supporting academic outcomes aligned with the District Improvement Plan as reflected in the Board Goals.
- Cooperates with other members of the staff in planning and implementing instructional goals, objectives, and methods per district requirements.
- Perform other duties as assigned or as necessary for job effectiveness.

Student Growth and Development
- Work with small groups of students as needed for intervention and enrichment.
- Assess the accomplishments of students on a regular basis and provide progress reports, as requested.
- Creates a small group environment that is conducive to learning and appropriate to the maturity and interests of students.
- Demonstrate success in improving student achievement as measured by local and state assessment results and other district performance criteria.
School/Organization Climate
- Attends and participates in meetings and committees, as required.
- Promote a positive work environment and positive staff morale throughout the district.
School/Organization Improvement
- Works in partnership with the K-5 math coordinator to review and analyze multiple sources and types of educator and student data to identify educator learning needs for improved student performance and instructional decisions.
- Participates in planning and implementing guidelines and practices to ensure the improvement and achievement of the school district’s mission and vision.
School/Community Relations
- Establish and maintain open lines of communication with students and their parents.
- Maintain a professional relationship with all colleagues, students, parents, and community members.
- Use acceptable communication skills to present information accurately and clearly.
Professional Growth and Development
- Remain current with effective instructional practices by reading educational research and seeking out and participating in a variety of professional learning opportunities
- Participate in the district professional learning opportunities, including Math Strategist professional learning requirements and meetings
- Demonstrate interest and initiative in professional improvement.
- Observe professional and ethical standards in accordance with generally accepted community standards and the Texas Education Agency code of ethics.
Policy Implementation
- Keep informed of and comply with state, district, and school regulations and policies for classroom teachers.
- Assume responsibility for compiling, maintaining, and filing all reports, records, and other documents required.
- Attend and participate in faculty meetings and serve on staff committees as required.
