WAGE/HOUR STATUS:  Non-Exempt 

DEPARTMENT:   Academics

REPORTS TO:     Campus Principal                                                                                                                                                                                                   

PAY GRADE:      $30.00/hour*

NO. OF DAYS:   To Be Determined 

* Duration of position is dependent on the campus. 

*This part-time position is not eligible for benefits.

 

EDUCATION: 

  1. High School Diploma
  2. Some College preferred

EXPERIENCE: 

  1. Teaching experience preferred

  

POSITION FUNCTION/PURPOSE: 

 

The Campus Tutor will serve as a support for students in elementary/secondary schools in collaboration with campus staff. The tutor will utilize instructional approaches in response to student need and analysis of student achievement data.

 

MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES:

      

  1. Implement lessons, while ensuring the integrity of academic time and in a manner, which motivates students to learn, participate, and grow in his/her development of literacy skills.
  2. Organize students for effective small group instruction.
  3. Inform teacher of students’ progress in literacy based upon skills addressed in small group.
  4. Report all student injuries, accidents, illnesses, and discipline problems to the appropriate authority immediately or as soon as is reasonably possible.
  5. Return instructional materials, equipment, and other items to proper place.
  6. Respect and maintain confidentiality of student and school personnel information.
  7. Maintain discipline and classroom control that fosters a safe and positive learning environment for all students and staff in accordance with school policies.
  8. Ensure the adequate supervision during small group instruction to assure health, welfare, and safety of all students.
  9. Take all necessary and reasonable precautions to protect students, equipment, materials and facilities.
  10. Flexible, friendly, and good at establishing quick rapport with students.
  11. Maintain a high level of ethical behavior and confidentiality when dealing with student, staff and/or parent information Special Requirements.
  12. Candidate must attend an orientation/training session and complete required district and state requirements (Background check).
  13. Regular instruction to special needs children may be necessary.

        Other Duties

  1. Perform such other duties as may be assigned or as may be necessary for job effectiveness.   

QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS: 

  1. Experience working with students
  2. General knowledge of reading instruction.

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to sit; stand; move throughout the room and/or facility; communicate verbally and electronically; use hands to finger, handle, or feel objects, tools, or controls; reach with hands and arms; kneel, stoop, crouch, and/or crawl; and climb or balance.  Regularly required to lift or exert force of up to 25 pounds.  Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, and the ability to adjust focus. 

  1. Perform duties typically in school settings to include: classrooms, gymnasium, cafeteria, auditorium, and recreational areas.
  2. Frequent walking, standing, stooping, lifting, up to approximately 30 pounds and occasional lifting of equipment may be required; other physical activities may be required.
  3. Vocal communication is required for expressing or exchanging ideas by means of the spoken word; hearing is required to perceive information at normal spoken word levels.
  4. Visual acuity is required for preparing and analyzing written or computer data, determining the accuracy and thoroughness of work, and observing general surroundings and activities.
  5. Subject to inside and outside environmental conditions, noise, and hazards.
  6. Contact with children to provide classroom management and learning environment support is required.

WORK ENVIRONMENT

 

The environment characteristics described here are representative of those an employee encounters while performing the essential functions of this job.  The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate.  Must be able to maintain emotional control under stress.  Occasionally required to travel to facilities within the district.  May be required to work after school and weekends.
