Education:  Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university; Master's Degree preferred.

 

Experience:  Five years or more of successful experience in one or more Student Information System computerized applications (preferably Skyward).  Programming experience in Oracle and/or SQL preferred.  Prior experience producing training materials and training adult learners preferred.

 

Position Function/Purpose:

Coach and develop the Student Information System (SIS) district and campus staff on goals and priorities, professional development needs, operating frameworks, guidelines and campus support. Serves as the compliance expert for all aspects of the district’s SIS, including but not limited to: entry/withdrawal coding, attendance, online enrollment, gradebook, GPA, transcripts, graduation plans, course catalogs, street directory, transfer coding, master scheduling, responsibility records, leavers, PEIMS reporting, discipline coding, etc.

 

Major Responsibilities

Instructional Management

 

  1. Promote SIS services which support and contribute to the achievement of goals and objectives set by the district for instructional staff.

 

  1. Eliminate operational obstacles that prevent campus leaders and teachers from focusing on instruction.

School/Organization Improvement

 

  1. Coordinate training of campus and district staff as it relates to the district’s SIS.

 

  1. Plan, design, and implement the development of training materials and documentation for applications.

 

  1. Ensure that follow up and support activities are provided to clerical and professional staff as needed to produce timely and accurate reports and products.

 

  1. Address and resolve problems which may interfere with or impede the production of system jobs or state reports.

 

  1. Assist Executive Director of Accountability Student Data Systems in identifying needs for the improvement of applications through consultation and liaison activities.

 

  1. Respond to needs by developing new and enhanced applications or reports.

 

Personnel Management

 

  1. Plan and implement training for SIS applications staff in skills needed to meet departmental goals and objectives.

 

  1. Assist in the preparation and revision of job descriptions for SIS applications staff.

 

  1. Monitor the performance of SIS applications staff and take steps to ensure that job responsibilities are performed in a timely and effective manner.

 

 

Administration and Fiscal/Facilities Management

 

  1. Implement standards and conventions for data elements, and implement procedures for their maintenance.

 

  1. Ensure cost-effective and prudent use of forms, supplies, and processing time in the performance of duties.

 

  1. Prepare and/or submit recommendations for improvements to procedures, applications, and/or programming.

 

  1. Coordinate the collection, correction, and verification of data that is reported to the TEA.

 

  1. Travel independently (local and overnight) to fulfill the responsibility of the position.

 

  1. Periodically work after normal duty hours and occasional weekends or holidays.

  1. Support and adhere to district policies and regulations regarding employee/community relations.

QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS


Special Knowledge/Skills:

 

  1. Professional level experience utilizing student data application systems (preferably Skyward) including but not limited to student and staff demographic data, grade reporting, scheduling, historical data, special populations, PEIMS, discipline, and health services

 

  1. Ability to train and supervise other staff in the use of the district’s SIS

 

  1. Ability to work with other staff members as part of a team within a production-oriented environment

 

  1. Ability to read and interpret technical material and to write technical specifications

 

  1. Demonstrated strong analytical and problem-solving skills

 

  1. Familiarity with a broad range of programming languages and technologies, including but not limited to, SQL, Oracle, Crystal Report Writer, MS Access, etc.

 

  1. Strong verbal communication, writing and presentation skills

 

  1. Ability to plan, organize, and implement training for other staff members to use computerized applications

 

  1. Ability to work well with a diverse population
