EDUCATION: 

 

EXPERIENCE:  A minimum of three year’s successful teaching experience (teaching level preferred matching level of position selected)

 

Position Function/Purpose

To provide leadership in the operation of the school to assist the principal.

 

Major Responsibilities

    Instructional Management

 

   1.  Interpret the MISD curriculum guides and assist in program implementation.

   2.  Assist with the administration of system-wide and special testing programs.

   3.  Assist with the monitoring and reporting of teachers' methods of charting pupil progress.

   4.  Develop an awareness of special programs such as Reading Recovery (elementary level), resource,

         library, gifted, special education and ARD's, bilingual or ESL, federal and others.

   5.  Follow state and local policies related to the teacher appraisal process.

   6.  Conduct classroom observations and teacher conferences in a professional manner.

   7.  Participate in school improvement activities as delegated by Principal.

 

   

 

School/Organization Climate

 

    8.  Promote a positive student learning environment and positive staff morale within the district by

         providing in-class support in the areas of classroom management, positive student reinforcement,

         motivational strategies, and maintenance of positive student rapport.

    9.  Provide instructional resources and materials to support teaching staff in accomplishing

         instructional goals.

  10.  Foster collegiality and team building among staff; encourage their active involvement in the

         decision process.

  11.  Provide for two-way communication with superintendent, staff, students, parents, and

          community.

  12.  Communicate and promote expectations for high level performance from staff and students;

          recognize excellence and achievement.

  13.  Facilitate effective and timely resolution of conflicts.

 

    School/Organization Improvement

 

  14.  Participate in required reporting and accounting procedures such as textbook management,

          attendance, inventory, etc.

  15.  Assist in the planning and preparation of the school budget.

  16.  Assist in constructing schedules for the campus.

  17.  Assist in planning and conducting fire and disaster drills.

  18.  Assist in orienting and monitoring the work of substitutes.

  19.  Implement policies contained within the current policy handbook adopted by the MISD Board of Trustees.

  20.  Make appropriate decisions and accept responsibility.

 

    Personnel Management

 

  21.  Develop an agenda and conduct faculty meetings.

  22.  Assist teachers as needed in classroom instruction.

  23.  Assist principal in teacher assessment to determine staff development needs.

  24.  Assist in the selection interview process of campus staff.

  25.  Assist in the recruitment and selection interview process at district level as assigned by the

          Superintendent or his designee.

  26.  Assist with the mentoring process of new hires at campus level as assigned by the

          Principal or his designee.

  27.   Assist in monitoring the effectiveness of assigned mentors at campus assigned by facilitating Mentor-First Year

          Teacher (FYT) meetings.

  28.  Conduct pre-conferences, observations and post-conferences with assigned new hires to collaboratively

          identify priorities, select goals and develop a professional growth plan. (Include input from Teacher Supervisors

          and other appropriate personnel).

  29.  Provide inductees in-class support/resources (observation results, materials, modeling, team

          teaching/planning, in service, personnel) needed to strive toward mastery teaching and mastery learning.

  30.  Report assessment needs to appropriate personnel, i.e., teacher supervisors, instructional coordinators,

          computer services, when additional instructional and technical resources are needed for inductees.

  31.  Plan and implement follow-up with inductees to encourage the utilization of materials, skills and 

          instructional models.

  32.  Analyze professional development progress with inductees, maintaining documented progress of

          teacher goal attainment as it relates to student success.

 

 

  

 Administration and Fiscal/Facilities Management

 

  33.  Coordinate routine maintenance requests and needs.

  34.  Conduct regular building and playground equipment inspections.

  35.  Assist in planning and coordinating the energy conservation activities.

 

 Student Management

 

  36.  Implement district discipline management plan.

  37.  Supervise pupils in campus area, i.e., halls, cafeteria, playground, crosswalks, bathrooms.

  38.  Assist in registering, orienting and assigning new pupils.

  39.  Assist teachers in identifying reasons for discipline problems and develop a plan of action.

  40.  Investigate student attendance patterns and suggests ways of improving school attendance.

  41.  Participate in accident and vandalism reporting procedures.

  42.  Monitor daily schedules to be certain instructional time is maximized.

   

School/Community Relations

 

  43.  Attend at least one PTA executive board meeting, all campus PTA meetings, and one meeting of

          the MISD Board of Trustees and City-Council PTA.

  44.  Participate in public relations activities for the school.

  45.  Assist the principal in creating positive home-school communication.

  46.  Assist the principal in the administration and coordination of the parent volunteer program.

 

 Professional Growth and Development

 

  47.  Observe professional and ethical standards in accordance with generally accepted community

         standards and the Texas Education Agency code of ethics.

  48.  Take the initiative to develop needed professional skills appropriate to job assignments to include

         the latest research and development in educational methodology.

  49.  Maintain confidentiality.

  50.  Serve on district committees/special projects, i.e., grant writing, as assigned by the Superintendent

         or his designee.

  51.  Perform such other duties and responsibilities as assigned, or as may be necessary for job

         effectiveness.
