Position Function/Purpose

Provide appropriate instruction for students with communication disorders.  Aid them in fulfilling their potential for intellectual and social growth.

 

Major Responsibilities

   Instructional Management

 

    1.  Develop and implement plans for speech program assigned and show written evidence of

         preparation as required.

    2.  Prepare lessons that reflect accommodation for individual student differences.

    3.  Provide speech instruction according to guidelines established by Texas Education Agency, board policies,

         and administrative regulations.

    4.  Employ a variety of instructional techniques and media, consistent with the needs and capabilities of the

         student groups involved.

    5.  Cooperate with other members of the staff in planning and implementing instructional goals,

         objectives, and methods in accordance with district requirements.

    6.  Employ the use of technologies in the teaching/learning process.

 

    Student Growth and Development

 

    7.  Assess the accomplishments of students on a regular basis and provide progress reports as required.        

    8.  Present for students a positive role model that supports the mission of the school district.

 

 

    School/Organization Climate

 

    9.  Create a classroom environment that is conducive to learning and appropriate to the maturity and

         interest of students.

  10.  Establish control in the classroom and administer discipline in accordance with board policies and 

          administrative regulations.

  11.  Take all necessary and reasonable precautions to protect students.

  12.  Promote a positive work environment and positive staff morale within the school.

 

    School/Organization Improvement

 

  13.  Participate with other staff in building a common vision for school improvement.

  14.  Participate in planning and implementing activities to ensure attainment of school's mission.

 

    Personnel Management

 

  15.  Assist in selecting/orienting a new instructional staff.

 

    Administration and Fiscal/Facilities Management

 

  16.  Take all necessary and reasonable precautions to protect equipment, materials, and facilities.

 

    School/Community Relations

 

  17.  Establish and maintain open lines of communication with students and their parents.

  18.  Maintain a professional relationship with all colleagues, students, parents, and community members.                 s.

  19.  Use acceptable communication skills to present information accurately and clearly.

 

    Professional Growth and Development

 

  20.  Demonstrate interest and attend professional development by attending in-service meetings, workshops and

          conferences.

  21.  Observe professional and ethical standards in accordance with generally accepted community

         standards and the Texas Education Agency code of ethics.

  22.  Perform such other duties as may be assigned or as may be necessary for job effectiveness.

 

    Policy Implementation

 

  23.  Keep informed of and complies with state, district, and school regulations and policies for classroom teachers.  

  24.  Assume responsibility for compiling, maintaining, and filing all reports, records, and other documents required.       

  25.  Attend and participate in staff meetings and serve on staff committees as required.

Supervisory Responsibilities

Supervise personnel as assigned by Coordinator of Special Education.

 

 

Qualification Requirements

Minimum Education/Certification:

 

·         Master's degree from accredited college or university

·         Valid all level Speech Therapy Texas teaching certificate or valid Texas license in Speech –  

·         Language Pathology

 

    Special Knowledge/Skills:

 

·         Knowledge of speech therapy

·         General knowledge of curriculum and instruction

·         Ability to work well with a diverse population

 

    Minimum Experience:

 

·         Student teaching or approved internship

 

    Terms of Contract:  According to district approved calendar
