Position Function/Purpose

Responsible for the assessment of intelligence and of educational functioning and for the collection and analysis of date pertaining to sociological variables for students.

 

Essential Functions

 

    Professional Skills

1.  Demonstrate knowledge of assessment instruments, their utilization and interpretation in making appropriate recommendations for student evaluation and placement.

2.  Select and administer appropriate evaluative instruments for the purpose of diagnosing individual student needs.

3.  Interpret test results to school personnel, parents and outside agencies as appropriate for disabilities and classroom performance.

4.  Write comprehensive reports which accurately reflect factual data.

5.  Maintain eligibility folders in an accurate, complete, and current manner as determined by local, state and federal regulations.

6.  Coordinate gathering of data to aid in the planning and placement of eligible students.

7.  Demonstrate the ability to offer effective instructional recommendations, goals, and objectives based on assessment.

8.  Participate in and contribute information to ARD meetings, parent meetings, transitions and other related meetings.

9.  Observe and informally assess behavioral strengths and weaknesses.

 

    Professional Relationships

 

10.  Demonstrate the ability to communicate with groups or individuals in a professional manner.

11.  Communicate with staff, students, and parents regarding confidential information in a professional

       and sensitive manner.

12.  Support the administration and administrative policies of the district, special education

       department, and the campus.

13.  Assist eligible students, families and staff in accessing community resources.

14.  Assist school personnel and parents in planning and implementing the Individual Educational

       Plan.

15.  Develop and maintain productive and cooperative relationships with district personnel and other

       professionals outside the district.

16.  Respond positively to supervision and suggestions from others.

17.  Participate with other staff in building a common vision for school improvement and in planning

       and implementing activities to ensure attainment of the school’s mission, as requested.

18.  Assist in orienting new instructional staff.

 

    Knowledge of Special Education Regulations

 

19.  Demonstrate knowledge concerning the application of local, state, and federal regulations and

       guidelines for special education.

20.  Ensure that assessment reports are clear and meet compliance standards.

21.  Complete assessments within the required timelines.

22.  Maintains confidentiality.

 

    Professional Growth and Development

 

23.  Observe designated working hours and schedules as set forth by district policies and the Special

       Education Director.

24.  Demonstrate interest in personal and professional growth by attending inservice meetings,

       workshops, conferences, and supporting his/her professional organization.

25.  Use information provided through assessment instruments, the district appraisal process, and

       evaluative feedback from supervisors to improve performance.

26.  Volunteer for and participate in job related committees.

27.  Make constructive contributions to staff meetings while exhibiting professional conduct.

28.  Plan and conduct inservices for regular education staff members in order to disseminate current special

       education information.

29.  Observe professional and ethical standards in accordance with generally accepted community

       standards and the Texas Education Agency Code of Ethics.

30.  Perform such other duties as may be assigned or as may be necessary for job effectiveness.

Work Environment
