Major Responsibilities
Vehicle Operation
- Follow the assigned route and adhere to established schedules.
- Drive bus to and from extracurricular activities.
- Check the bus for mechanical defects before and after each operation and notify the supervisor of needed repairs.
- Report all accidents, vehicle damage, student injuries, and mechanical failures. Complete required reports.
- Keep the assigned bus clean and fueled.
Student Management
- Supervise students while they board and leave the bus and cross the street.
- Communicate with teachers and parents on a daily basis regarding student behavior while on the bus.
- Maintain discipline; report student discipline problems to appropriate administrators.
- Instruct students on safe riding rules and regulations.
Safety
- Observe all traffic laws and safety regulations for school buses.
- Inspect the bus by checking fuel, oil, water, tires, lights, brakes, and steering to ensure the bus can be operated safely before driving.
- Ensure proper condition of emergency equipment, such as first aid kit, fire extinguisher, flags, fuses, crow bar, and reflector.
- Correct unsafe conditions in the work area that could cause an accident and inform the supervisor of any conditions that are not correctable immediately.
- Report any hazardous conditions along the route.
Other
- Operate two-way radio equipment to communicate with the transportation office.
- Work irregular hours as needed.
- Attend and complete the required training program to maintain safety certification.
- Keeps records on bus mileage, gas and oil consumption, and number of passengers transported.
- Demonstrate a knowledge of Driving safety rules
- Demonstrate the ability to work well with fellow personnel
- Assume responsibility for the care, disinfecting of related equipment of the bus.
- Execute DOT inspections and Pre Trip and Post Trip inspections
- In – service Training – will need to obtain a minimum of 65.5 hours per school year.
- Follow policies and procedures regarding student bus discipline
- Demonstrate punctuality when performing duties
- Follow policies and procedures related to absence from duty
- Responsible for safely loading and unloading students, following health and safety protocol, and performing emergency evacuation drills.
- Responsible for the assignment of seats for students and oversee the student rosters
- Responsible for servicing and upkeep of buses and performing exit checks.
- Demonstrate a positive attitude and provide great customer service when working with students and parents
- Operate all Midland ISD vehicles for routing and extracurricular purposes.
- Demonstrate the ability to perform duties as assigned by supervisor
- Perform all other duties as assigned by Director of Transportation
